The North area's proximity to the rapidly expanding areas to the north and
the more established communities to the south give it one of the best
central locations around. It's less than a half hour from almost any
location in the Tri-county metropolitan area.
Just up the road a little is some of the South's best fresh water fishing in
Lakes Marion and Moultrie. Just down the road is Charleston Harbor, opening
into the Atlantic for the best salt water fishing you could imagine.
The 12,000 seat Coliseum in the heart of North Charleston offers a wide
variety of entertainment from the Circus to concerts by national acclaimed
entertainers.
Excellent shopping is also found with the two largest shopping malls sitting
right in the middle of the North Area. Quite a few other shopping centers
scattered throughout the area add a generous compliment to the shopping
facilities available to North Area Residents.
One recently discovered gem in North Charleston, has actually been around since the mid-20th century. Park Cirlce is quickly becoming one of the "it" spots to live in the Charleston area. All of the adjoining neighborhoods in the area come together at a large central traffic circle. Each street then leads from the circle forming what looks like spokes on a bicycle wheel. In the center of the old North Charleston neighborhood you will find a large park that surrounds the traffic circle. Inside the traffic circle are several ball fields, picnic tables, a gazebo, and a playground. A disc golf course is located around the outside of the traffic circle!

Featured Area: NOISETTE
Named for a noted 18th century botanist who came to the Carolinas in 1794, Noisette is the 3,000-acre historic center of North Charleston, South Carolina. Its residential, industrial, commercial and recreational areas are being reshaped to form a sustainable community - one that is equally attuned to social needs, environmental responsibility and economic vitality.
The Noisette community boundaries are roughly those that defined North Charleston when that community was incorporated in 1973. However, in the last 30 years, through annexation and “green-field” subdivision development, North Charleston has expanded into one of the state’s largest cities. Today, the Noisette area represents only a small corner of its parent city.
Located beside the Cooper River, the main tributary of the South’s most famous harbor, the Noisette area supports a racially and economically diverse population of 13,000 people, plus a daily influx of thousands of workers, shoppers, students and others. It includes a wide mix of neighborhoods, retail areas, industries, schools, municipal buildings and parks, many of which have remained relatively stable in profile despite the rapid development of the Charleston/North Charleston metropolitan area.
